Chapter 8: Mastering Motivation

THE TAKEAWAY

1.       The training journey for your stroke survivor starts with that 4:00 a.m. alarm and the will to work hard when nobody is watching.

2.       Tiny changes made on a daily basis can lead to extraordinary progress for your stroke survivor. Changes in physical recovery cannot be proven unless regular measurements are taken.

3.       As a caregiver, if you have low self-worth or are not able to diagnose this in your stroke survivor, you will—almost inevitably—not be able to undertake a successful rehabilitation program.

4.       Our self-esteem is derived from our abilities, accomplishments, social positions, and things we believe we can achieve. You can bolster your stroke survivor’s self-esteem by improving their skills or performance.
